This week I made the trip out to Roanoke Virginia and decided to check out some of its attractions. I did some googling on caves and overlooks and I made the decision to head to ‘Mill Mountain Park’, which has a few overlooks and trails, and also where the Roanoke Star is located. “The Roanoke Star, also known as the Mill Mountain Star, is the world’s largest freestanding illuminated man-made star, constructed in 1949 at the top of Mill Mountain in Roanoke Virginia”.
This place had some nice overlooks within a short walking distance (.10 mile maybe).
And here is a picture of the Roanoke Star during the daytime
Finally I left mill mountain to head over to check out one of the largest rail-yards on the east coast. This place was full of train activity and was stunning the way it sat in between mountains.
Definitely a town to return to.
